The island of Hvar is considered the most exclusive of the Dalmatian islands for various reasons. In the capital Hvar, for example, there used to be an important seaport for the Venetians. As such, it has disproportionately large public buildings and plazas that give the city a distinctly opulent feel. Apart from the capital city, the island of Hvar has a very prosperous agriculture and tourism industry.
