Casares is one of the most charming whitewashed villages on the Costa del Sol and it stands out for its biodiversity and the variety of its landscapes, which are part of Andalucía’s protected natural areas. It is situated between Estepona and Manilva and is surrounded by the stunning Natural Parks of the Sierra Bermeja and Sierra Crestellina. Casares is split into two urban areas: Casares Costa, which is a beachside strip of residential urbanisations, a commercial centre, bars and restaurants and the old historical village of Casares (known locally as Casares Pueblo), which is located 15 kilometres from the beach, up into the mountains, sitting 430 metres above sea-level. Casares was already known outside its borders in Ancient Roman times when the Emperor Julius Caesar was healed from his hepatic diseases thanks to the sulphurous waters and the curative mud of La Hedionda baths, which are located just outside town, while he was returning to Rome. Ruins of the first Phoenician, Iberian and Roman settlers have survived in its surroundings. Casares is unspoilt by mass tourism, it is ideal for anyone looking for tranquility, green scenery and amazing views towards the coast.
