Vodice is a popular resort near Sibenik. The area of today’s Vodice was inhabited as early as the 4th century BC. Roman trade routes led here, from Iaderi (Zadar), through Arauzona, to Saloni. In the 13th century, houses, churches and castles began to be built here. In the 15th century, the Turkish army drove the Croats into Vodice. In the 15th and 16th centuries, people built a high wall with three towers around their new dwellings. Later, when the defensive walls were no longer needed, people used its stones to build houses. Today, the wall and towers no longer exist. Vodice remained the only town in the area that was not under Turkish rule. There are four interesting archaeological sites around Vodice. Vodice is an ideal starting point to the breathtaking national parks of Kornati, Krka and Telascica.
