The largest Greek island is unique for its ancient towns, including the legendary Knossos Minoan Palace and the impressive mountainous landscape. Almyrida is in the Apokoronas area, at the entrance to Souda Bay, about 22 km from Chania to the East. Almyrida is a seaside resort extending about 2 kilometres along the coast. The resort itself is quite small and touristy, with many hotels and apartments for rent. Like neighbouring Kalyves, Almyrida has been very built up in recent years, due to strong Northern European interest in buying land and houses there.
